Case Study: First Wessex – the ideal partner?

What makes a good corporate charity partner? One that raises funds, for sure. But also one that sets an example to others. The partnership that Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice has with Hampshire-based housing association First Wessex is a shining example of how a company can make a real difference to the environment and to the local community.

First Wessex provides homes and services to local communities throughout Hampshire and parts of Surrey. It prides itself on working closely with residents and surrounding communities to deliver high quality homes and services, managing and maintaining around 20,500 affordable homes for rent or purchase.

Part of their work involves renovation and replacement of housing heating and plumbing services. Over recent years, the Building Maintenance, Gas Service, Heating Installation and Estate Service teams of the Aldershot offices have been recycling metal left over from new boiler installations, fly tip clearance, repairs, new developments and empty properties.

In recent years they have made donations of between £3,000 and £5,000, but this year they have excelled themselves with a magnificent £10,000 gift. The value of scrap metal and the company’s major North Camp Aldershot redevelopment project have both contributed to this fabulous increase.

So a social housing provider with strong environmentally friendly recycling credentials which also donates significant sums to charity. I’d say that makes First Wessex the ideal partner!
